Successfully expressing a landscape, in all its vibrancy and/or subtlety,
through image, depends on many factors. I try to use the magic light of
dawn and dusk to my best advantage, but it's still sometimes a matter
of luck, and I scramble to catch the shot. Other times, it's a matter of
revisiting the scene many times, waiting patiently for the right conditions.
Not every sunrise or sunset has the magic light — it depends on the clouds,
the air, the time of year — so many factors. For me, there is
Christmas-like excitement in arriving and setting up at a remote place before
first light, then waiting to see what unfolds. I am partial to the places
where water meets land.
